Whoopi Goldberg drew wide criticism Monday after saying on \u201cThe View\u201d that the holocaust had nothing to do with race.<\/p>\n

During the show panel\u2019s \u201cHot Topics\u201d discussion, the women began discussing the banning of the graphic novel \u201cMaus,\u201d which tells the story of author Art Spiegelman\u2019s father and his experience in German concentration camps, with Jews depicted as mice and Nazis as cats. <\/p>\n

But as the women got deeper into why \u201cMaus\u201d was banned, Whoopi made a bold claim.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s be truthful about it, because the Holocaust isn\u2019t about race. No. It\u2019s not about race,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s about man\u2019s inhumanity to man. That\u2019s what it\u2019s about.\u201d<\/p>\n

As her co-hosts tried to get clarification on what she meant, and point out that the Nazis did in fact believe that Aryans were \u201cthe master race,\u201d Whoopi doubled down. You can watch the full discussion in the video above.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are two white groups of people. You\u2019re missing the point,\u201d Whoopi added. \u201cThe minute you turn it into race, it goes down this alley. Let\u2019s talk about it for what it is. It\u2019s how people treat each other. It\u2019s a problem. It doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re Black, or white, \u2019cause Blacks, whites, Jews, everybody eats other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following the segment, Twitter users expressed their anger and disbelief over the host\u2019s words.<\/p>\n
