Cheslie Kryst was Miss USA 2019 and was a correspondent. <\/em>She committed suicide in New York City on Sunday. She was thirty-one years old.<\/p>\n

In a statement, her family confirmed the news to The Associated Press Washington Pos<\/a>T. Police said that she leapt from an apartment building.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie,\u201dThe statement is as follows: \u201cHer great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shined. Cheslie embodied love and served others, whether through her work as an attorney fighting for social justice, as Miss USA and as a host on EXTRA. But most importantly, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague \u2014 we know her impact will live on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kryst was born in Jackson, Michigan but later moved to South Carolina where she graduated from the University of South Carolina, the Darla Moore School of Business, and later North Carolina\u2019s Wake Forest University School of Law. Kryst was a former Miss Carolina, and she won the Miss USA crown in 2019.<\/p>\n

Later, she was hired as a reporter for the magazine series. Additional<\/em>. After her death, her teammates issued a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur hearts are broken. Cheslie was not just a vital part of our show, she was a beloved part of our \u201cExtra\u201dThe staff were touched by her family’s love and support. Our deepest condolences to all her family and friends,\u201d the Twitter post reads.<\/p>\n
