A Holocaust survivor who spent four months at Auschwitz has celebrated becoming a great-grandmother for the 35th time.<\/p>\n
Lily Ebert, 98, was liberated by American soldiers in April 1945 when she was 20 and, some 77 years later, says babies are the \u201cbest revenge against the Nazis\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor anybody to achieve this \u2013 to be a great-grandmother \u2013 is something special, but how much more for me as a Holocaust survivor\u2026 it is very special,\u201d Ms Ebert, who grew up in Hungary told the PA news agency after her youngest grandchild welcomed a newborn earlier in January.<\/p>\n
\u201cI never thought I would achieve this. I had to survive first of all and then to achieve this age\u2026 (the Nazis) wanted to kill us and we showed (them) that they could not.\u201d<\/p>\n
After being freed, Ms Ebert spent a year in Switzerland before moving to Palestine-occupied Israel in 1946.<\/p>\n
She migrated to the UK in 1967 with her husband, Samuel, and began a life of educating the world about the horrors of the Holocaust.<\/p>\n
She is now based in North London where she is a mother of three, grandmother of 10, and great-grandmother of 35.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s dedicated her whole life to educating others about the Holocaust,\u201d one of her great-grandsons explained.<\/p>\n \u201cShe would go to different schools, workplaces, organisations, with other survivors \u2026 and she would share her testimony,\u201d Dov Forman said.<\/p>\n \u201cShe also was a founding member of the Holocaust Survivor Centre in the UK.\u201d<\/p>\n Ms Ebert \u201cpromised\u201d herself she would tell her story.<\/p>\n \u201cI have not heard the story \u2013 I was there. I am a witness,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cI promised myself: as long as I am here, I will tell my story for the future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n She really is the queen of the family<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Mr Forman, 18, praised his great-grandmother in a tweet which has accrued more than 120,000 likes.<\/p>\n \u201cMy 98 year old great grandmother Lily Ebert, an Auschwitz survivor, has just become a great-grandma for the 35th time,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n The A-level student is used to media attention \u2013 his TikTok account for Ms Ebert and her stories has a following of more than 1.6 million.<\/p>\n He has even co-authored a book with Ms Ebert titled Lily\u2019s Promise, which tells of the life she has built for herself.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re just trying to tell her story to as many people as possible, both on social media and via our book,\u201d Mr Forman said.<\/p>\n \u201cI could sit here for a whole day and explain to you how much I\u2019ve learned from her\u2026 she really is the queen of the family.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re just an incredibly tight family and Lily sits at the top of that, and she just inspires us every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A Holocaust survivor who spent four months at Auschwitz has celebrated becoming a great-grandmother for the 35th time.
