Matt Gaetz said Wednesday night he would consider bringing Kyle Rittenhouse on as a Congressional intern. Rittenhouse, 18, is on trial for murder after shooting three people during a protest last summer, killing two. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know what? Kyle Rittenhouse would probably make a good congressional intern. We may reach out to him and see if he\u2019d be interested in helping the country in additional ways,\u201d Gaetz said during an appearance on right-wing commentary channel Newsmax, where he also said he believes Rittenhouse is innocent. <\/p>\n<div class=\"tpd-read-more-container\" style=\"border-top:1px solid #e0e0e0;border-bottom:1px solid #e0e0e0; padding-top:15px;padding-bottom:15px; display:flex;margin-bottom:1.5em;margin-top:1.5em;\"><\/div>\n<p>The Florida representative \u2014 who himself has been under a Department of Justice investigation for sexual misconduct since early this year \u2014 said, \u201cHe is not guilty. He deserves a not guilty verdict and I sure hope he gets it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jury deliberations in Rittenhouse\u2019s trial will continue into a third day on Thursday as the members consider the defense\u2019s claim that Rittenhouse shot in self-defense and the prosecution\u2019s that he crossed state lines with a weapon while looking for trouble.<\/p>\n<p>There is no mention of whether convicted felons may serve as congressional interns in the frequently-asked-questions <a href=\"https:\/\/sgp.fas.org\/crs\/misc\/R44491.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guide<\/a> produced by the Congressional Research Service, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2008\/11\/felons-in-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it is possible<\/a> for a felon to run for and serve in Congress. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Rep.
