Tom Hanks, the actor and director of “The Dark Tower”, has said he will boycott versions that are ‘woke’ such as Roald Dahl stories.<\/p>\n

Hanks, now a bestselling author, said he was \u201cof the opinion that we\u2019re all grown-ups here\u201d.<\/p>\n

His comments come after publisher Puffin announced it would remove or rewrite \u201coffensive\u201d language around issues such as weight and gender.<\/p>\n

Asked if language should be changed in classics by children\u2019s author Dahl and Agatha Christie, Forrest Gump star Hanks said: \u201cWe understand the time and the place and when these things were written.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it\u2019s not very hard at all to say: that doesn\u2019t quite fly right now, does it?<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s have faith in our own sensibilities here, instead of having somebody decide what we may or may not be offended by.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hanks, 66, added on BBC Radio 4: \u201cLet me decide what I am offended by and not offended by.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would be against reading any book from any era that says \u2018abridged due to modern sensitivities\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rishi Sunak, the PM of India has previously also spoken out in opposition to these woke rewrites. <\/p>\n
