Fraudsters have attempted to impersonate SPICE Girl Mel B in order to take advantage of her celebrity friends. <\/p>\n

They reached out to her family and friends via WhatsApp for donations on Binance, a cryptocurrency trading platform that trades digital currencies.<\/p>\n

Mel’s contacts were also promised the possibility to purchase Bitcoin at an extremely low rate of return. <\/p>\n

The messages were sent using the name of charitable Mel and asked for donations to a specific project. “help African children dying of thirst”. <\/p>\n

According to a source, Sunday People<\/a>: \u201cMel knew nothing of it and called in police straight away.<\/p>\n

“She feels really violated and angry that someone would do this and claim it\u2019s for charity reasons when she does so much charity work herself.<\/p>\n

“The messages were written as if from her, using kisses and emojis so they were believable.”<\/p>\n

Another source claimed that the scam was plausible because Mel does a lot charity work. “Mel does a lot of work for causes close to her heart so it’s doubly upsetting that a fraudster would play on that to try to scam her friends.”<\/p>\n

Friends became suspicious of the cryptocurrency element and raised alarm.<\/p>\n

It is not known if any of her contacts gave money. <\/p>\n

Mel received an MBE for her advocacy on domestic violence. <\/p>\n

After she was divorced from her abusive husband, the Women’s Aid patron stated that her award was for all women affected by the issue.<\/p>\n

Last week, she asked for government action to address it. “How many more must die?”<\/p>\n

Brave Mel spoke at a joint Sun and Women’s Aid Event. She recalled her ten years of domestic abuse hell and revealed how her ex left her. “powerless”.<\/p>\n
