Washington Post reporter Dave Weigel is expected to join Ben Smith\u2019s Semafor after being suspended from The Post for retweeting a sexist joke, according to the Daily Beast.<\/p>\n

The Beast reports that Weigel will join the digital startup following the 2022 midterm election. Confider<\/a> newsletter.<\/p>\n

Weigel, who worked at The Post from 2015 to June, was fired for sharing a sexist Tweet.<\/p>\n

You just have to figure out if it\u2019s polar or sexual.\u201dShortly thereafter, Felicia Smez, another journalist at The Post, was appointed. Posted<\/a> a screenshot of her colleague\u2019s retweet along with the caption, \u201cFantastic to work at a news outlet where retweets like this are allowed!\u201d<\/p>\n

Sonmez asked and tagged Weigel in company Slack messages that CNN obtained. \u201cI\u2019m sorry but what is this?,\u201dAlso, the retweet sent \u201ca confusing message about what the Post\u2019s values are.\u201dShe also shared\u00a0Several examples<\/a>\u00a0of insults and threatening messages she received on Twitter \u2013 which seemingly pressured leadership to take further action.<\/p>\n

Weigel deleted the tweet and apologised for sharing the post on June 4. \u201cI just removed a retweet of an offensive joke,\u201dHe tweeted. \u201cI apologize and did not mean to cause any harm.\u201dWeigel was terminated on June 6, indicating that the damage had already been done.<\/p>\n
