Robert De Niro and his director will re-team \u201cWag the Dog\u201dBarry Levinson to star in a new crime drama, \u201cWise Guys\u201d that is set at Warner Bros. that would have De Niro playing not one but two of the 20th Century\u2019s biggest crime bosses, an individual with knowledge of the project told . <\/p>\n

Nicholas Pileggi was the one who wrote the original crime script. It would tell the story of Vito Genovese (the head of two Italian-American mafia family families) and Frank Costello (the other). Genovese attempted to assassinate Costello in 1957. De Niro was slated to portray both Genovese, and Costello in the movie. <\/p>\n

Pileggi is the author a book called \u201cWiseguys\u201d from 1985 that served as the basis for Martin Scorsese\u2019s \u201cGoodfellas\u201dSince 1990. Irwin Winkler\u201cRocky,\u201d \u201cGoodfellas\u201dProducing is a ). <\/p>\n

Levinson was most recently director \u201cThe Survivor\u201dWith Ben Foster, who is up for an Emmy nomination this year. <\/p>\n
