{"id":114556,"date":"2022-07-11T20:49:45","date_gmt":"2022-07-11T15:19:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/centralrecorder.com\/iranian-auteur-jafar-panahi-arrested-amid-conservative-backlash\/"},"modified":"2022-07-11T20:49:57","modified_gmt":"2022-07-11T15:19:57","slug":"iranian-auteur-jafar-panahi-arrested-amid-conservative-backlash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/centralrecorder.com\/iranian-auteur-jafar-panahi-arrested-amid-conservative-backlash\/","title":{"rendered":"Iranian Auteur Jafar Panahi Arrested Amid Conservative Backlash"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>\n<p>Jafar Panahi is a prominent dissident Iranian author who is known for his award-winning works such as \u201cThe Circle,\u201d \u201cOffside,\u201d \u201cThis is Not a Film,\u201d2015 Berlin Golden Bear Winner \u201cTaxi,\u201dAgence France Press reports that he has been detained in Tehran.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJafar Panahi has been arrested today [Monday] when he went to the prosecutor\u2019s office to follow up on the situation of another film-maker, Mohammad Rasoulof,\u201dAFP reported Mehr, an Iranian news agency.<\/p>\n<div class=\"t-content__body u-clearfix\" data-empty-p=\"false\">\n<p>Panahi\u2019s arrest marks the third detention of an Iranian filmmaker in less than a week, coming after the recent arrests of Rasoulof and fellow filmmaker Mostafa Al-Ahmad, which took place over the weekend and were allegedly prompted by the directors posting a statement on social media in the wake of a violent government crackdown.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Panahi, who is considered among Iranian cinema\u2019s greatest living masters, has won multiple festival awards, including the Venice Golden Lion in 2000 for \u201cThe Circle,\u201dCannes Un Certain Regard Jury prize. \u201cCrimson Gold\u201d2003 was a notable year for the award. \u201cClosed Curtain,\u201dIt competed in Berlin 2013 and won the screenplay prize that year.<\/p>\n<p>Panahi was repeatedly placed under house arrest or in jail on vague charges during his distinguished career. \u201cpropaganda against the system,\u201dAlong with Rasoulof. Panahi is also prohibited from making films, writing scripts, or giving interviews.<\/p>\n<p>In the past decades under the country\u2019s Islamic government, many Iranian directors and actors have been arrested and accused of propaganda.
