After an eight-month renovation, the McDonald’s at Nyugati Railway Station in Budapest, often heralded as the world’s most beautiful, has officially reopened its doors.

The stunning station, a creation of Austrian architect August de Serres—who also contributed to the design of the Eiffel Tower—continues to be a highlight of Budapest. The McDonald’s franchise first opened its doors here in 1990 and has built a name for itself over the years.

After being closed for renovations since January 2024, it’s finally back in action, showcasing a blend of exquisite original elements and modern innovations.

One remarkable feature includes the preservation of antique lamps and beautifully painted stucco ceilings, creating a unique dining atmosphere. The massive glass windows provide a view that rivals the city’s famous sights, while the copper fixtures add a lavish touch.

Incorporating contemporary technology, the restaurant now boasts touch screen kiosks and a fascinating transparency with a food conveyor belt running between the kitchen’s two levels—a truly unique McDonald’s experience!

Customers can now order via the app or enjoy the comfort of table delivery, enhancing convenience.

The McCafe has also been elevated with a new outdoor terrace, now situated at the entrance level for easy access.

“This is one of our most impressive restaurants,” said Zsolt Égi, the managing director of Progress Étteremhárosl Kft., which oversees McDonald’s operations in Hungary. “Nyugati tér McDonald’s opened 34 years ago and continues to be recognized as one of the most remarkable locations in the world.”

Egi added, “In just six months, we managed to renovate the space while honoring its rich heritage. We incorporated many unique solutions that are unprecedented in the McDonald’s system worldwide, emphasizing real, natural building materials.”

Among the standout menu items is the Goosey Gustav burger, topped with luxurious foie gras, alongside trendy options like gluten-free buns.

Many diners have shared their awe with comments like, “The interior is absolutely beautiful, resembling a five-star hotel’s ambiance.”
