In 2015, the Aquarius mission came to an end due to a technical fault and in 2015 the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment was stopped as the GRACE-2 satellite had to be retired because of its age.

NASA has partnered with deep-ocean exploration teams to create tech for Europa’s mission in 2021. This shows that ocean exploration will not be in decline.

NASA has carried out numerous ocean exploration programs, including those that focus on the ocean worlds of Mars and other moons.

Combining impossibly deep water, extreme pressure, and a lack sunlight, over 80 percent are still a total mystery.

These mysteries have been solved by NASA ESSP missions: the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment, (GRACE), and the Aquarius mission.

GRACE launched on March 17, 2002. It was created to examine previously unknown variations in ocean mass fields – an important aspect of climate and ocean circulation research.

Aquarius was launched on June 10, 2011. It was created to investigate the salinity and oceans from space.

Researchers are allowed to spend up to three weeks at the Aquarius, which is the only undersea research station in the world.

Aquarius scientists attempted to understand the changing ocean, coral reefs and their condition. Coral reefs are under threat locally, regionally, and globally from increasing levels of pollution, over-harvesting fisheries, disease, and climate change.

NASA has made ocean explorations possible, which have resulted in knowledge and technology that can now be widely applied to research and development.

This initiative includes ocean surface togography, ocean vector winds, and ocean color, as measured using radiometers.

What did NASA discover in the ocean?

Aquarius provided the essential ocean surface saltiness data required to link the water cycle with ocean circulation, two major components of climate system.

It was also found that Aquarius inhabitants, which are known as “aquanauts,”They could stay for an indefinite time and enjoy almost unlimited bottom time on their scuba diving trips from Aquarius.

Aquanauts are subject to a 17-hour decompression at the end of each mission. This is done within Aquarius, while they are still on the bottom.

Aquanauts were freed from Aquarius after decompression was complete and scuba-dived to the surface.
