It’s been over a year since NBC axed dramedy Good GirlsEven though a fifth season seemed almost certain, it was revealed that the show’s fifth season was not a certainty. Shortly after the shock news, it was revealed that two of the biggest stars involved were in Good Girls’ cancellation. Retta, star of the show, now pours tea about it. She is obviously salty.
Retta was recently featured on Live! With Kelly & RyanThe hosts then asked her questions about the event. Good Girls. While the comedian didn’t get into all of the details, she did confirm that it’s not coming back and revealed the root of the cancellation:
We were so close to our fifth season that one person destroyed it for all the cast and crew. And so it’s not back.
Obviously, Retta didn’t reveal too much more about the situation, but it’s definitely a disappointment to have one person ruin it all when they were so close to Season 5. This makes me wonder about what really happened. However, Retta wasn’t naming names. It seems that what happens on the Good Girls Stays on the Good Girls set.
Retta was unsure if there was a way to replace the unnamed individual. She said that it was too close at the beginning of the story’s planning. Retta is still bitter that the story did not go in the desired direction.
I think it was a little too close to when they would have to start and figure out a story, so… no. Kelly, I am salty. I was literally like, ‘Okay, maybe there was like a bomb scare at some point, and then a bomb actually went off, and that’s why that person’s gone.’
It would have made it interesting to see how storylines would have changed if the cast member had been replaced or written out. It’s not unprecedented for a series to replace a cast member or just write their character out between seasons.
Multiple cancellations are possible after the cancellation. Good Girls Stars took to Twitter to respond to the news. Posts included memes and expressed disappointment. Since the series wasn’t quickly picked up anywhere else, it’s unlikely it will get the same Netflix treatment as Manifest Roku treatment or Zoey’s Extraordinary PlaylistNBC cancelled both in 2021.
Even without Season 5, it’s still worth watching. Good Girls The cast is currently working on other projects. Mae Whitman scored the lead role in Hulu’s upcoming musical rom-com series Get Up. Christina Hendricks will star in the film adaptation of The New York Times Bestseller. The Storied Life Of A.J. Fikry. Retta hosts the HGTV series. Ugliest House in America.
