Marvel mania will continue.

Disney’s “Thor: Love and Thunder,” the fourth standalone story about Chris Hemsworth’s hulking God of Thunder and the second (of three) Marvel movies to play in theaters in 2022, is gearing up to turbocharge the domestic box office. The MCU’s sprawling nth sequel is expected bring in $145 million to $155million over the weekend. Other estimates suggest as high as $170million. The film will be released in North American cinemas in 4,300 theaters starting Friday.

Tickets sales should be a guarantee of that “Thor: Love and Thunder”This is the best opening weekend of the year. “The Batman”($134 Million debut) and somewhere else “Jurassic World: Dominion”($145 million initial) “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” ($185 million debut). Based on initial projections “Thor 4” will also represent a sizable jump on the results of its predecessor, 2017’s beloved action-comedy “Thor: Ragnarok,”The first North American market opened at $123 million. The third “Thor”The movie earned $315 million in domestic box office and $853 million globally.

The international box office is “Love and Thunder”The company is poised to earn between $140 million and $150 million when it opens in all major markets other than China, Russia, France.

For Disney’s MCU, a debut of $150 millionOr more would be a strong result. That’s because although Thor is a fan favorite at this point, the quirky superhero adventure doesn’t have the multiversal appeal that fueled the massive turnout for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” or “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”In brief, the Guardians of the Galaxy appear briefly in “Love and Thunder,”But “Thor 4”is basically Thor in all aspects. That being said, Hemsworth isn’t the only Norse god who can summon a Mjölnir. Natalie Portman returns to the series to play Jane Foster, an astrophysicist. She has now gained her own superpowers and is the Mighty Thor. This hammer-wielding pair embarks on a quest to defeat Gorr The God Butcher (a frightening Christian Bale), a galactic villain who seeks to end all things divine.

The majority of critics were impressed with the product. “Thor: Love and Thunder,”It was directed and produced by “Ragnarok”Taika Waititi is a Kiwi filmmaker. Variety’sOwen Gleiberman was one of the most enthusiastic critics, praising the film’s quality. “pleasing, let’s-try-it-on-and-shoot-the-works effervescence.”

“‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ is far from standard, and that’s a good thing,”Gleiberman wrote “…It builds on the earlier film’s highly winning tone of skewed flippancy.”

As the only new nationwide release, the Marvel movie looks to continue Hollywood’s stellar summer at the box office, which has fielded plenty of hits including “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” “Jurassic World: Dominion”And, of course, “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Comscore reports that the total box office has reached $3.9 billion so far in 2022. That’s up 246% from 2021, but down 32.4% compared to 2019.
