Utah Man Reunites with His Biological Mom Twenty Years After Being Adopted

Holly Shearer was only 15 when she discovered she was pregnant. She made the difficult decision that she would give her baby up to adoption.

“I was so scared,” Shearer tells Inside Edition. Angela Hulleberg, who was not able to have her biological children, was chosen by Shearer to adopt Benjamin. The adoption agreement was sealed, and all communication must cease.

“I wondered everyday what he was doing, what his favorite color was, what his interests were,” Shearer said.

Baby Benjamin was now a man of his own after two decades. He received a social media message from Shearer telling him to celebrate his 20th Birthday. “Happy birthday. I hope you had a wonderful day.”

“I responded, ‘Hey, who are you? Do I know you?’ And that’s when she told me who she was,” Benjamin said.

His birth mystery was finally solved.

Holly and Benjamin met at dinner and their conversation took an extraordinary turn. They realized that they were not so far apart, and both of them worked at St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City.

“Finding out we worked in the same place, that was insane to me,” Benjamin said.

Shearer works as a medical assistant at the heart center. Benjamin is a volunteer at the NICU.

“My mind was racing. I tried thinking back, ‘Is there a time that I remember that I passed him and said hello?’” Shearer said.

Now the two are catching up, sharing photos and memories of each other’s lives. They discovered they had lived only five miles apart all their lives.
