USC names Lincoln Riley as the new Trojans football head coach

University of Southern California has hired Lincoln Riley, the Oklahoma coach, to replace its faltering football team.

USC began looking for a coach since Clay Helton was fired in mid-September. The search took time and the Trojan fan’s prayers were answered.

Riley is one the brightest college football innovators. He is the Trojans’ 30th head coach and will take over a program that had struggled in 2021, with a 4-7 Pac-12 record and a record of 3-5 in league play.

Riley led Oklahoma to the College Football Playoff each of his three seasons as their coach. As Sooners coach, Riley won 55 games and four consecutive Big 12 titles. He was also seventh in the polls for any of the five seasons.

He is also a skilled quarterback developer and helped Baker Mayfield as well as Kyler Murray win the Heisman Trophy. Both were named the No. They were both the No. He was also the coach of Jalen Hurts (a Heisman finalist) who now plays for the Philadelphia Eagles.
