Underwater ‘Castle’Turkey’s River Deals with Droughts: Turkey Emerges from the Water

Turkey has been hit by droughts that have revealed an ancient castle.

Hastek Castle was built into the mountain, right next to the Euphrates. In 1974, a dam was built to keep water from eroding the mountain.

Although the castle is only accessible by boat, historians and tourists have taken up the opportunity to see this mysterious structure.

There are several rooms in the castle, all connected by narrow galleries.

The rooms were built into the Kaban Dam Lake’s bedrock, with loopholes added to let sunlight in.

They also helped to identify potential enemies.

The lack of rain this year has caused water levels at dams to drop to unprecedented levels across the country. This is what the Turkish government called catastrophic.

This hidden treasure is just one of many benefits of the otherwise difficult conditions that much of the country has been fighting.
