Kids possess an amazing ability to express their creativity, sometimes in the most unexpected ways. One moment, they’re playing quietly, and the next, your dining table is transformed into a canvas of colorful crayon doodles. Sound familiar?
But what happens when you discover your once-pristine furniture now sporting vibrant crayon art? The real challenge begins: cleaning it up!
One concerned parent found herself in this exact predicament. Desperate for a solution, she turned to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning tips and tricks Facebook group to seek advice from fellow cleaning enthusiasts.
This anonymous mom shared a photo of her white porcelain table plastered with black, green, and blue permanent marker stains.
“Can someone help me before I throw out my dining table?” she pleaded. “Felt tip pen and permanent marker vs four year old!”
Thankfully, the Mrs Hinch community responded quickly with a plethora of creative cleaning hacks to restore her table to its former glory.
One group member suggested using hair spray or hand sanitizer. Surprisingly, the mom reported back that this method did lighten the stains somewhat but unfortunately didn’t completely remove them.
Just so you know, hair spray can cost as little as 85p from Bodycare and works wonders for lifting stains. The process involves letting the hair spray sit on the affected area for a few minutes before wiping it away with detergent and warm water.
Cleaning experts advocate for hair spray’s effectiveness against stubborn stains from ink, grease, and even red wine!
Another parent chimed in, recommending nail varnish remover, available for just £1 from Poundland. “That’s how I managed to erase most of the kids’ scribbles,” she shared.
Community members agreed, with one mom stating, “Hair spray worked wonders for us when trying to get markers off my daughter’s whiteboard.”
I managed to remove scuff marks that usually require painting over.
Professional cleaner
A former professional cleaner also recommended GUMPTION Multi-Purpose Cleanser, a mild abrasive paste ideal for tackling stubborn ingrained stains that ordinary cleaners can often miss. You can find it for approximately £5 on eBay.
As the professional cleaner put it, “You’ll find yourself reaching for it for everything after you see how effective it is. I managed to remove scuffs that would usually need a paint touch-up.”
