The Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico have been warned to expect torrential downpours through until Tuesday as Peter moves northwest.

Weather watchers warned it could cause small-scale flooding and urban disruptions with up to 3 inches of rainfall.

As the tropical storm moves at approximately 15mph, top winds of around 45mph were recorded. But no coastal watches nor warnings have been implemented.

According to reports, the storm will be pushed out of the sea by a strong cold front that is moving eastward across the US.

Peter is the latest weather systems to take part in this year’s hurricane season that has rocked Atlantic.

Forecasters are also monitoring another tropical depression that formed on Sunday over the eastern tropical Atlantic Ocean.

The system was around 315 miles west-southwest of the southernmost Cabo Verde Island and is moving north-northwest at 14 mph.

The system’s maximum sustained winds are 35 mph and it will likely transition to a tropical hurricane later today or Monday. But it is not expected to pose any threat to land.

Rose will be given the name of the 17th storm system if it achieves storm status.

This year’s weather has been relentless, with Storm Nicholas ravaging states just days after Hurricane Ida.

HECTIC HURRICANE SEASON

Louisiana declared a state of emergency last week as residents braced themselves for torrential rains and strong gusts, as flash floods destroyed buildings when it made landfall along the coast of Texas on Tuesday.

According to the National Hurricane Center, it brought winds up to 75 mph.

Tropical Storm Odette formed just off the East Coast, following closely.

Residents were told it could bring “life-threatening surf and rip current conditions”, but the main impacts were expected in maritime Canada.
