BOOSTER ROLLOUT EXTENDED

The UK’s vaccine advisory body the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) confirmed the move today.

And kids aged 12 to 15 will also be offered a second dose of the vaccine, in an attempt to shore up the nation’s immunity in the face of the worrying new strain.

From tomorrow, mandatory mask-wearing will be back in shops and public transport in England.

Anyone who fails to wear a face covering in shops or on buses, trains or the Tube could be fined up to £6,400 – with the rules coming into effect at 4am tomorrow.

COMPULSORY MASKS

Fines of £200 will be dished out to people who don’t wear a face mask under new Government rules .

A second offence would see the penalty leap £400, with £800 on the third occasion up to a maximum fine of £6,400.

From tomorrow, face masks will be required to be used in salons, banks, and other locations in England.

However, they are not required for hospitality venues such as bars and restaurants and entertainment venues such like cinemas and theatres.

TRAVEL BANS

In an effort to stop Omicron spreading, international travel rules have been tightened.

Ten additional countries were added to the red list. Only British and Irish citizens, as well as UK residents, are allowed to enter the UK via these destinations.

Doing so requires that you quarantine for 10 days in a Government Hotel upon arrival to the UK.

Passengers who arrive in the UK from non red list countries after 4am tomorrow morning must undergo a day-two PCR testing and self-isolate to get a negative test.

Contacts of Omicron-positive people will be able to use self-isolation procedures.

Those who have been in touch with someone who gets the new variant will have to self-quarantine for 10 days even if they’re vaccinated.

After three weeks, scientists will review the new curbs to see if they are still effective.

MPs will vote on the new restrictions in the next few days.
