The Walking Dead finally revealed how Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira will return as Rick and Michonne (and it won't be in theaters).

Nearly four years later, The Walking DeadFans have been suffering from a Rick Grimes drought since Andrew Lincoln left the series in mid-Season 9. AMC and Scott Gimple, franchise overlords, finally gave everyone an official reason to celebrate. Lincoln has been confirmed to be reuniting again with Danai Gira’s equally-missed badass Michonne, for a brand new project which won’t be as many features as originally planned. They’re actually getting their own TV series!

Follow the panels at San Diego Comic-Con Tales of the Walking Dead The Walking DeadAndrew Lincoln and Danai Guurira joined Scott Gimple to announce a limited series for AMC Studios. This will continue Rick and Michonne’s epic journey and relationship. Gimple will serve as showrunner while all three of them will take on the executive producer duties.

Here’s Andrew Lincoln responding to the statement.

It has been an extraordinary experience playing Rick Grimes for over a decade. The friendships I’ve made along the way are deep and lasting, so it’s fitting that I finally get to complete the story with Danai and Scott and the rest of the TWD family. I’m so excited to be returning to the screen as Rick, reuniting with Danai as Michonne, and bringing the fans an epic love story to add to the Walking Dead Universe.

This couple seems to be focusing on the love story, which makes sense considering that they don’t have to worry about their kids interrupting their romantic moments. You can laugh, but it is almost certain that their return to their loved ones will be part of the story. You don’t even need to tell them how they came together. It will be a huge disappointment if they need to be reunited after three episodes. For now, however, we remain optimistic.

Here’s Danai Gurira’s thoughts on reprising Michonne after her departure from Season 10.

Michonne and my TWD family mean so much to me. It’s a privilege to continue the story of these beloved characters with Scott and Andy. I can’t wait to pick up the katana again.

It’s unclear if this project has any bearing on There were rumors that Gurira was going to get her own spinoff seriesDisney+, based on her Black Panther character. But we know it won’t get in the way of Lincoln’s upcoming small screen return for an episode of Guillermo del Toro’s Netflix anthology Cabinet of CuriositiesSince that series will debut later in the year,

Fans have been waiting patiently for news on an upcoming theatrical trilogy focusing exclusively on Rick Grimes. The updates for this project were rare and far betweenAs all things COVID were a hindrance to progress, so was Michonne. Although Danai Gurira was not involved in the feature plan, we now know Michonne will.

2023 seems far off, but fans can still look forward to another season of Fear the Walking Dead The debut season Isle of the DeadWe know that we will also be watching Rick, Michonne wrap up their stories, and so on.
