Following the highly successful film, The Mighty Ducks, released in 1992, streaming platform Disney+, commissioned the making of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers into a television and streaming series for a wider audience. Initially, filming for The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers was scheduled to begin in February 2020, and end in June 2020. This was delayed due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Starring Lauren Graham, Brady Noon, and Emilio Estevez, ABC began developing The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers based on the franchise The Mighty Ducks,

originally set to release in November 2018. Created by Brill, Josh Goldsmith, and Cathy Yuspa, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers starts as a direct sequel to the original film, The Mighty Ducks. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series has a high approval rating of 89% based on 36 critic reviews, which makes it a must-watch series of 2021.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers Main Plot and Summary

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers takes place in present-day Minnesota, and the Mighty Ducks hockey team has greatly changed since Coach Gordon Bombay (played by Emilio Estevez in the original movie) has left the team. Now, the Mighty Ducks junior hockey team has evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team and has become the organization the other teams love to hate.

The series starts with 12-year-old Evan Morrow (Brady Noon) being unceremoniously cut from the Mighty Ducks. Evan’s struggling single mom Alex Morrow (Lauren Graham) tries desperately to take her son’s mind off the stressful, win-at-all-costs atmosphere the

Mighty Ducks promote.

Alex decides to help Evan start a hockey team of his own that concentrates more on playing and having fun. Following her plan, Evan and his neighbor, Nick (Maxwell Simkin), set about recruiting players, while Alex searches for a rink. The series then focuses on Alex’s hockey plans, her relationship with her son, and how with the help of former coach Gordon Bombay, Evan and his friends rediscover the joys of playing just for the love of the game.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers Season 2 – Latest News and Release Date

Originally, the filming of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers was set to commence on February 18, 2020, and complete by June 2020. It was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The shoot was resumed once Disney TV Studios made a deal with British Columbia unions about testing the cast and crew members for COVID-19.

Show creator and executive producer, Steven Brill, has given hints that following the success of Season 1,

Disney+ will likely announce a deal for Season 2 of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. If that would be the case, Season 2 will have a completely different storyline from that of Season 1 going by the indications of Steven Brill in all his press meets.

Showrunners have insisted that if there is a second season, it will be made to feel like a sequel, not as the second season of a TV show. Fans can therefore expect a decision of renewal by Disney+, and an even more exciting Season 2 of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
