The scenes of joy in the country tonight were starkly different from those in South Korea, which have seen weekend Halloween celebrations end in tragedy.
According to reports, at least 149 people have been killed and 150 injured when revellers gathered up on a narrow street in Seoul.
As field hospitals were set up to treat hundreds of casualties, rescuers were captured trying to free people trapped under dead bodies.
After Saturday night’s Itaewon crush, survivors were also seen sprawled out on the street wrapped in foil blankets.
Amid the horror one man was filmed climbing up a wall to escape the surge as 100,000 revellers celebrating Halloween panicked.
After a large partygoer flooded into it on a downhill street, the horror unfolded. Yonhap News Agency said.
“As people in the front fell over, those in the back were crushed,”The news agency was told by a witness in his 20s.
More than 800 emergency responders from across the nation rushed to the Hamilton Hotel to help.

Authorities in Seoul say dozens of people collapsed and went into cardiac arrest after being crushed by the huge crowd.

Prime Minister Rishi Sonak was horrified by the crush and said: “Horrific News from Seoul tonight.”
“All our thoughts are with those currently responding and all South Koreans at this very distressing time.”
Emmanuel Macron, French President, made his offer. “heartfelt thoughts” adding: “France is by your side.”
