Melanie “Mel B” Brown is gearing up to showcase her survival skills in the upcoming Netflix series Bear Hunt, where she will be facing off against the renowned adventurer Bear Grylls alongside other celebrities. The Spice Girl, aged 48, is reportedly being compensated with a hefty six-figure sum for her appearance on the competition show, as disclosed by the Daily Mail
.Filming for Bear Hunt commenced in Costa Rica over the weekend with Mel B as part of the star-studded lineup, as revealed by Central Recorder. Brown’s motivation for participating in the reality series reportedly stems from her desire to finance her impending nuptials with 36-year-old Rory McPhee at St Paul’s Cathedral.
The songstress, who announced her engagement to McPhee in November 2022, is planning to tie the knot at the renowned cathedral due to her MBE status. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Brown elucidated, “As I have an MBE, I am allowed to marry at St Paul’s. They only do a small number of weddings a year so we are on the waiting list.” Although Brown has extended invitations to her former Spice Girls bandmates for the wedding, she clarified that they will not be serving as bridesmaids given their age.
The Spice Girls reconvened recently at Oswald’s private members club in London to commemorate Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday. However, speculations arose regarding a strained interaction between Brown and Geri Horner, with reports suggesting a fallout following Brown’s accusations in a recent interview that Horner had been dishonest about her age. Despite the alleged tension, Brown took to Instagram to express her adoration for her fellow Spice Girls, affirming that “#friendshipneverends.”
Bear Hunt is expected to witness Brown and other celebrities undergoing survival training under the guidance of Bear Grylls, who will subsequently track the stars through the jungle in a quest to capture them before they reach the show’s culmination. Netflix has teased the show’s premise, stating, “Bear believes there’s an action hero inside us all — even the celebs — but how strong is their will to survive? As Bear puts them through their paces, those who fail to impress will face the dreaded ‘Bear Hunt’ — a brutal game of cat and mouse where they’ll be hunted down and, if captured, eliminated from the show.”
