After the fatal and tragic shooting on the set of Alec Baldwin’s RustThere are many people who have. Both condolences were sharedAnd Their critiques of the incident. Now Sons of AnarchyKurt Sutter is a writer and producer who has spoken out about his experiences working with guns, safety precautions and the events that led to the tragic death of Kurt. Rust’s director of photography Halyna Hutchins.

As someone who was at home on the set of FX’s Sons of AnarchyNow, it’s a spinoff series Mayans M.C.Kurt Sutter has seen lots of gunplay on sets. In an interview with him, he stated the same. DeadlineHe stated that, despite owning guns in nearly every scene, there has never ever been a gun-related incident on any of his projects. In his own words, here it is:

Because I feel that any words I say could be interpreted as judgment, I have tried not to speak. We had guns on almost all of my sets, including The Shield and Sons. But we never had an incident. A machine was always available for safety and props. There were a few motorcycle accidents, but not one with a weapon. That’s because we followed protocol. Safety protocols were put into place after the Brandon Lee incident. We had competent actors, smart prop people and gun tests were conducted in front of cast members and crew.

He is referring to an accident that is not yet known. The shooting of the set The CrowIn the early stages of our history ‘90s that resulted in Branson Lee’s death. It was a tragedy which helped to propel safety precautions on set forward. A similar accident had not occurred again until the one at the set of RustThis was nearly 30 years later.

In the same interview, Kurt Sutter indicated that he doesn’t know where the blame should be placed, but that there is definitely blame to be put somewhere. Here’s how it happened SouthpawProducer and writer put it this way:

Always was an announcement ‘hot gun’It was set because there was a sound load and then everything was always rubber. I don’t know what went down on that set. My sense, from listening to the information that’s coming in, the letting go of union crew, and bringing on non-union crew, that those safety protocols were not met. You didn’t have people that either knew about them or thought they were important, right? Because, experientially, they didn’t know. Is it the producer’s fault? Is it the producer’s fault? Is it the director’s fault? I don’t know where the blame lands, but to me, that’s the hole, right?

No matter how loaded the gun is or what ammo it uses, guns will always be involved. Safety must be our number one concernSo that everyone is safe on the set. Kurt Sutter knows that guns are just that, and that people who work around them must be trained.
