“Significant Evidence” Found Of Possible Trump Fraud

Letitia James, New York Attorney General, stated that her investigation had revealed several facts. “significant evidence” that Donald Trump’s businesses used “fraudulent and misleading”Asset valuations

James was engaged in a legal fight to get Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump involved in the investigation. “have all been closely involved in the transactions in question, so we won’t tolerate their attempts to evade testifying in this investigation.”

“We have uncovered significant evidence indicating that the Trump Organization used fraudulent and misleading asset valuations on multiple properties to obtain economic benefits, including loans, insurance coverage, and tax deductions for years,”James wrote.

She started using social media to share her office news. A cross-motion was filed to compel witnessIn her civil investigation of their business practices, Trump and two of his kids were interviewed. Her office hasn’t decided if she will pursue legal action.

“We will not be deterred in our efforts to continue this investigation, uncover the facts, and pursue justice, no matter how many roadblocks Mr. Trump and his family throw in our way,”She wrote.

Trump sought to halt her subpoenas and characterized her investigation as politically motivated.

Trump’s legal team has argued that James cannot issue subpoenas because she also is working with the Manhattan district attorney on a separate criminal investigation, per NBC News. They argue that she can’t compel testimony in civil investigations if it could be used in criminal proceedings.

James and her team stated in the court filing that witnesses could testify when a parallel investigation was underway. “Each witness is free to invoke their Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination. A witness’s exercise of that right in a civil investigation (or any other civil or administrative proceeding) is neither uncommon nor a denial of a constitutional right. Rather, witnesses routinely face such a decision and invoke the privilege—as witnesses have done in this investigation.”

A spokesperson for Trump Organization didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Among other things, James’ team indicated in the court filing that they had possible evidence that the Trump Organization “may have improperly obtained more than $5 million in federal tax benefits from misleading valuations of conservation easements at Seven Springs and Trump National Golf Club, Los Angeles.”

“Virtually all of the benefits from the misleading valuations accrued to Donald J. Trump. The evidence and testimony sought have a reasonable connection to the subject matter under investigation.
