SF Studios Presents WWII Series About Man Who Saved Jewish People

SF Studios (“Margrete – Queen of the North”SVT, a Swedish broadcaster, has partnered up with Beta Film (“Atlantic Crossing”) on “Raoul,”A drama series about Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat who saved thousands of Jews during World War II.

The six-part series is based on Carl-Johan Vallgren’s August Prize-winning biography “Raoul Wallenberg: The Biography.” Jesper Harrie (“Bonus Family”), Måns Herngren (“Solsidan,” “Bonus Family”Vallgren and he co-created the book and it was penned “Raoul.”Herngren will be directing the period drama. Shooting will begin next January. Beta Film will handle international sales for the historical series.

Wallenberg was born into the powerful Swedish Wallenberg family but was never included in the family’s business empire. Wallenberg was seen as a socially talented and carefree man. In 1944, he was sent on a rescue mission to help Jews in Nazi-occupied Hungary. He was able to save thousands of lives using unconventional methods within a matter of months. He had hoped to find a job within the Wallenberg Empire, but he was detained by Soviet authorities at the end and vanished.

“The story of Raoul shows what we can achieve when we follow our compassion and belief that all men are created equal,”Harrie, Herngren, and Vallgren made the statement in a collective statement. “But Raoul, who refused to abandon his fellowmen, was himself abandoned by his country and by the Wallenberg family. This gives more dramatic dimensions to the story.”

Susann Billberg is the head of TV drama at SF Studios. She said that the project will bring a lot of joy to people. “together some of Sweden’s greatest talents.”

“Raoul” is produced by Tobias Åström at SF Studios and is co-produced by SVT and Harrie, Herngren and Vallgren, in collaboration with Beta Film. This series is being created with the support of Creative Europe MEDIA, the European Union.
