This time, the streaming service has opted to shed light on the chilling tale of Sally McNeil, a former bodybuilder convicted of killing her husband on Valentine’s Day in 1995.

In a new three-part mini-series titled Killer Sally, audiences finally get to hear Sally’s side of the story. Alongside this, details of the couple’s relationship and the crime committed will be presented.

Who is Sally McNeil?

The titular Sally’s full name is Sally McNeil. She is a former American bodybuilder, who married another former bodybuilder, Ray McNeil. Sally was born on May 29, 1960.

Although the crime took place in 1995, when Sally was aged 35, she is now 62 years old. Convicted of second-degree murder in 1996, McNeil was sentenced to 19 years to life.

She launched numerous appeals on a variety of grounds and her conviction was initially overturned by the US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

However, the State of California appealed the decision to the US Supreme Court, which reversed the 9th Circuit’s ruling.

The 9th Circuit later reconsidered the matter and ruled in favor of the State, reinstating McNeil’s original conviction.

She served her sentence at the Central California Women’s Facility and was released in 2020 when her parole was granted by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Her former husband, Ray, was born on December 17, 1964. Of course, the bodybuilder would be 57 years old if he were still alive.

All That’s Interesting reports the couple first met in 1987, when they were both Marine Corps officers. The couple had two children and lived together. The Cinemaholic reports that while McNeil was living with her husband and their children, she claimed her husband became abusive.
