Ryan Reynolds is humbled by Canadian Award and Jokes About Crying Maple Syrup

Actor, entrepreneur and Canadian Ryan Reynolds humbly thanked musician Steven Page and Canada’s Governor General Mary Simon after receiving a prestigious Governor General’s Award.

The “Free Guy”Star took to Twitter Saturday afternoon to share his gratitude and jokes.

“Last night, Canada honoured me with a Governor General’s Award and this video,”Reynolds started. “I’m not crying. It’s just maple syrup.”

Reynolds was nominated in the National Arts Centre Award for 2020 that recognizes performing artists, but the ceremony was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Page paid tribute to the Vancouver-born actor on Friday night. He highlighted his achievements, career, and charitable work.

@stevenpage is a friend and legend for wasting this amazing song on me,”Reynolds also added Twitter. “Thank you to Her Excellency, @GGCanada, Mary Simon. #GGAwards@CanadasNAC I’m a wreck.”

“Wow. That was stunning. I mean, it made me cry. I guess I’ve made it,”Reynolds stated this after watching Reynolds perform and wearing his medal.

The video tribute is very cool. “They said Bryan Adams was busy,”Page opens his serenade. “And Nickelback all had to work. They meant to call Drake but called me by mistake, so you’re stuck with a song by this jerk.”

“They asked me to write you a number to show you just how we all feel,” Page continued. “We now you’re a fan of the land we call Canada, but here’s what I’ve got to reveal: Canada loves you back.”

“Wherever you go, we want you to know, Ryan, Canada loves you back,” Page continued.

Page starts to drop names of Canadian celebrities or people Canada loves like Alex Trebek, William Shatner and Bruno Jarrousse.

“Of all the Canadian Ryans, you’ve gotta be in our top three,”Page sings. “We’ll drink American gin (referencing Reynolds’ Aviation gin) when your [soccer] team in Wales (Wrexham AFC, which Ryan owns) wins and tell everyone you’re from B.C.”

“Cuz, Canada’s got your back. Canada’s got your back. When things aren’t so good in old Hollywood, Canada’s got your back.”

As the song progresses, the video references continue to improve. The whole thing can be viewed here HereYou can also use the link above.
