Roku’s Sports hub adds cross-platform experience

Roku’s new hub integrates live and upcoming updates from all sports on the Roku platform. It also provides a central location for sports content. Here’s what you need to know.

According to RokuA recent survey of sports fans revealed that 61% want a central location to watch sports (61%), and that 63% want features that allow them browse their favorite leagues and teams (63%). Roku offers exactly that experience to its users.

“We know that keeping track of where sports are being streamed has only become more fragmented over the past few years,” said Alex Hill, Director of Live & Sports. “Watching your favorite teams should be simple, so we’ve made it a priority to build out a more seamless and streamlined way to discover and watch sports on our platform. Sports are a vital part of the streaming experience, and we will continue to make enhancements to the experience which includes new supported providers and find new ways for our users to root for their favorite teams.”

The new Sports hub integrates Roku Search, Roku Voice and Live TV Zone. During the season of the sport leagues they air, sports-related content will be available from supported channels.

Here’s how to use this new Sports experience:

  • Scroll down to Sports on your Home Screen Menu, or search for “sports”or any associated words, such as a team name or league name in Roku Search.
  • The new Sports experience will allow users to see live and upcoming matches for a initial list of leagues and conferences.
  • When a user clicks on the tile for a game that they are interested in watching, they’ll be presented with watch options for that particular event from supported channels;
  • Users also have the option to choose Zones specific for individual sports or leagues. They can view live and upcoming events, find content that is relevant to their favorite leagues, and explore rows of sports content.

Roku has also added new sports-related programs to its Roku Channel. This new experience is supported currently by DIRECTV and FOX Sports, FuboTV. Prime Video, Paramount+, FuboTV, FuboTV, FuboTV, FuboTV and Roku Channel. More partners will be added over the next few months.
