But one of her most controversial claims was that Nguyen didn’t actually post all of the comments to Facebook. This is Performative Slacktivism at it’s best. (No Slacktivism wasn’t a typo). Jennie must do the work necessary to grow and change her racist and Islamophobic views.
Other viewers echoed Jen Shah’s issues with the way Jennie Nguyen attempted to rectify the situation. It was called by Shah “performative slacktivism”Nguyen was able to bring in a Black friend, but it was labelled Black by her fans “tokenism”In an attempt to avoid responsibility. Some were even suggesting that the man was paid to speak on Nguyen’s behalf as he did.
Jennie Nguyen apologized throughout the live for inflicting insults on viewers and supporters. “disgusting”In her defense, she also made claims via Facebook. Nguyen, for example, stated she wasn’t racist but her friend stressed that people can’t. “play the race card”With her because she had a Black employee in one of her businesses. The fired employee also had a Black coworker. This isn’t the first racial controversy that has rocked the world. Salt Lake City’s Real Housewives. Mary Cosby was criticized in Season 2 for a number of controversial comments, including when she claimed that Jennie Nguyen had been abused. “slanted eyes.”Cosby actually skipped the reunion taping of the show and has been missing in production for the third year.
It isn’t clear as of yet if Mary Cosby will indeed follow Jennie Nguyen out the Bravo door. Salt Lake City is looking more turbulent by the day.
