Queen Elizabeth’s Coffin Arrives to Windsor Castle For Final Rest

The state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II took place at London’s historic Westminster Abbey on Monday morning. This marked the end of the official mourning period for Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

The event was attended by over 500 foreign heads, including President Biden. Security protocols, which were decades in the making, were even challenged.

Queen Elizabeth II, queen in the United Kingdom and 14 sovereign countries, was 96 when she died at Balmoral Castle, Scotland.

Her eldest son King Charles III has ascensioned the throne. He immediately began fulfilling constitutional duties following his mother’s passing.

The queen’s funeral was followed by days of planned public celebrations, including a procession that ran from Buckingham Palace up to Westminster Hall. Many people waited in line for the chance to view the queen’s coffin throughout the four days that the queen was in state. Many waited almost 30 hours to get there.

After the funeral, the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II was taken in a procession to Hyde Park. It was then taken by hearse to Windsor Castle’s St. George’s Chapel. This is where Prince Philip and her sister Princess Margaret are buried.
