Pfizer claims its Covid Antiviral Pill is 89% Effective for High Risk Patients

Pfizer has announced that it is now 89% more effective than a previous drug to combat coronavirus. BBC reported.

Due to the positive results of the pill, the company decided to stop clinical trials.NBC News.

BBC reported that Paxlovid is a drug used to treat coronavirus symptoms in high-risk individuals.

“These data suggest that our oral antiviral candidate, if approved or authorized by regulatory authorities, has the potential to save patients’ lives, reduce the severity of COVID-19 infections, and eliminate up to nine out of ten hospitalizations,”Albert Bourla, Pfizer’s CEO and Chairman, said in a statement that was obtained by NPR.

NBC News reported that Pfizer stated that the antiviral pill worked best within three days. According to NBC News, Pfizer reported that side effects were moderate to mild and comparable to people who received the placebo.

NPR reported that the company will now send the results from the clinical trials to U.S. Food and Drug Administration in order to obtain emergency use authorization.

The UK’s Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid called the results “incredible,” when he poke to BBC. The drug has to go for approval in Great Britain as well.

“”If approved, this could become another weapon in our arsenal to combat the virus alongside our vaccinations and other treatments,” he stated.
