PBS Newshour Exit Decision: “a Long Time Ago”

Long-term “PBS Newshour”Anchor Judy Woodruff spoke out about her plans to resign from her position and said that it was not a recent decision.

Speaking during “NewsHour’s”Woodruff spoke on the panel at 2022 Television Critics Association’s virtual press tour. She said that she had been contemplating quitting her position “for some time”This coincided with the upcoming midterm election.

“While I have just as much energy and enthusiasm … this was a decision made a long time ago,”She spoke.

Veteran political correspondent will now be focusing on special television projects, in the hope of achieving his goal of “getting across the country, speaking to Americans”The critical midterms.

Woodruff, 75, had previously detailed a plan of exit — at least through the 2024 presidential election — in May. In the fall, plans for her replacement will also be made.

Woodruff’s tenure at PBS began in 1983 when she was Washington correspondent chief. Woodruff returned to “Newshour”In 2006, I started working on documentary series. Later, I became a senior correspondent on their politics team.

In 2013, Woodruff and the late Gwen Ifill became the show’s dual anchors until the latter’s death in 2016. Since then, the former has been the show’s sole anchor and managing editors. Outside of PBS, Woodruff has worked on NBC’s “The Today Show”CNN.
