‘Nope’ Thursday Previews: See $6.4M

Jordan Peele’s third feature as director, Nope, The 3,250 theaters that opened at 4PM last night grossed $6.4M.

That’s a good start for a Peele movie, just 14% off from the $7.4M which his last horror pic, Us, Made in March 2019. The domestic box office opened with $71.1M, making it the biggest opening for an R-Rated horror movie.

Nope‘s previews are well ahead of Get Out‘s $1.8M, which was a movie that audiences discovered in its opening weekend and flocked to, sending its opening to $33.3M.

Contact Us is Peele’s longest movie to date at 2 hours and 15 minutes. The movie’s critical scores on Rotten Tomatoes are, so far, the lowest of his three films, but the numbers are pretty good at 81% next to Contact Us‘ 93% Certified fresh and the Oscar-winning Get Out‘s at 98% certified fresh. Nope It is expected to gross around $50M. Given the length of the film, which is typical for horror movies, it may make less. However, this could be due to the ease in the critical response. The film was made for $68M in the Santa Clarity Valley before P&A.

Disney/Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder The film was the most popular in regular release Thursday with an estimated $3.8M at 4,375 theatres. This is -15% off Wednesday’s total for a two-week run of $254M. Thor: Ragnarok Comparatively to the same time period.
