Because he had lived in the area since the 1960s when The Watcher’s father allegedly spied on the house, this was why he was suspicious. Unfortunately, there was no evidence linking him to the letters.
The possibility that The Watcher could actually be a bitter stranger who was outbid for the house has been raised. And there is even the possibility that The Watcher might have been invented by The Broadduses to deceive the public. Why? Buyer’s remorse.
The Watcher was eventually identified by the police, private investigators, and an ex-FBI agent. The anonymous stalker is still not caught.
