Actress Minnie Driver credits her neighbor’s dog for saving her life, after a harrowing surfing mishap. The British star, aged 54, explained how her neighbor’s dog, named Riley, sprang into action when he spotted her in distress after being slammed by a large wave, resulting in a broken rib.
The courageous Alsatian-Labrador cross, Riley, sprang into action to assist Driver. He managed to guide her back onto the surfboard, ensuring her safety, before swimming back to the shore to get help.
The incident took place in Malibu, California, near a beach famously known for being a location where the iconic TV series Baywatch was filmed, featuring the memorable run-by-the-Pacific opening scene by Pamela Anderson.
Reflecting on the incident, Driver, who received an Oscar nomination in 1997 for her role in Good Will Hunting, expressed her gratitude towards the heroic dog, stating, “He was trying to sort of grab me and, like, nose me back on to my board. He was amazing.”
Driver recounted how the dog, recognizing her distress, alerted his owner by the beach, signaling that she needed help while being alone in the water.
During an interview on the Table Manners podcast, Driver mentioned that her 15-year-old son, Henry, shares her passion for surfing, illustrating the bond and appreciation she has for the ocean and the life-saving actions of her neighbor’s loyal companion.
