Mikel Arteta slammed for Thomas Partey decision – but there is an admirable reason for it

Arsenal fans have criticised Mikel Arteta for his decision to start Thomas Partey in Arsenal’s Carabao Cup clash with AFC Wimbledon.

They are currently the bottom-ranked team in the competition and are looking to upset the Dons on Wednesday night.

Arteta isn’t looking to be left with eggs on his face so he has chosen a strong team, which includes Partey.

Partey was injured in three of the first three games and is not fully recovered, despite having played in the two previous wins.

Arteta picked him with the North London Derby on the horizon. However, it may not be his first choice.

Thomas Partey has been struggling for fitness since his injury

Chris Wheatley, a journalist for football.london, tweeted: “I’m told Thomas Partey asked to play tonight as he looks to fine-tune his match fitness ahead of Sunday’s North London derby.”

However, fans weren’t too impressed with the decision.

“Why’s he risking Thomas Partey though? Considering he can’t do 30 minutes before picking up an injury,” one fan replied.

Another added: “Why play Partey man.”

“Arteta is the most unfortunate coach we will ever see in this club history…how on earth will you use Thomas Party against AFC Wimbledon,” a third replied.

Arsenal fans had been hoping to catch a glimpse of their 17-year-old sensation Charlie Patino, but he didn’t make the squad.
