Matthew Perry Says Bill Maher: "I'm glad You're here" Friends actor opens up about Nearly Dying

Matthew Perry’s memoir, Friends, Lovers, And The Big Terrible ThingBefore it was even published, the book was already making headlines. Perry convinced Julia Roberts to appear in Perry’s book. Friends He was a bit sarcastic in his mention of Keanu Reeves. Perry is able to talk about his long-running battle with drug addiction in the book. He had to go through rehab multiple times and also have to deal with a medical emergency. Perry’s near-fatal accident from a few years back is the main event that is documented in the book. After Bill Maher, a talk show host, told Perry about his near-death experience, the actor opened up to him. “I’m glad you’re here.”

Maher commented on the story upon introducing Perry on his late-night talk show, Real Time with Bill Maher. After reading the candid memoir, the late-night host is seemingly taken aback that the Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip star is still around to tell his story. The polarizing comedian even mentioned that many people in and outside of Hollywood had the TV actor “in a dead pool,”Perry himself is also included.

After hearing the stand-up comic’s take on his harrowing story, the Chandler Bing actor went on to tell his story. He explains it in these words:

Seven years ago, I was in an awful accident. I was given a 2 percent chance of survival. They [doctors] didn’t tell me that obviously because I wasn’t really there, but they told my family. I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which you, having read my book, would know what that is… they called that a Hail Mary when they do put you on an actual machine. Five people were put on ECMO that night. Four of them died, but I made it.

Matthew Perry was very fortunate to escape the situation alive. After sharing his thoughts on the nearly-deathly incident, the 53 year-old actor admitted that his faith played a part in his addiction recovery. At this stage of his life, the actor can be truthful with humor and reverence. To be honest, the stories he has shared since publishing the book are not pretty. It’s amazing to see him openly discuss all he has experienced with addiction. He has also talked about how others have noticed his addiction.
