Daniel Kokotajlo (“Apostasy”He will direct and screenplay his sophomore film, based on Andrew Michael Hurley’s novel.
The story takes place in rural England in 1970s. Richard is an archaeologist. He spends his time exploring the folkloric belief that the ancient oak tree on his land, where his family lives, is blessed with extraordinary powers. Juliette, Richard’s wife, looks to the local community for some peace and Richard continues to dig deeper. But an unexpected discovery soon occupies the couple’s attention and their seemingly idyllic family life is thrown into turmoil when their son Ewan starts acting out of character, creating an insurmountable wedge between the once happy couple. This film is described as a dark and stylized modern horror story about trauma and loss inherited in a world ruled over by supernatural folklore.
Cornerstone has joined the board to manage worldwide sales of the film at European Film Market.
“Starve Acre”The film is a House Productions production and is produced Tessa Ross (Julie Howell) and Emma Duffy. This British film was created with BBC Film. It is funded by Access Entertainment and BBC Film, as well as the BFI (with National Lottery funding). The film is currently in preproduction and will begin shooting in the U.K. later in spring.
House Productions was founded in 2016 by Tessa Ross, former head of Film 4, and Juliette Howell, former head of Working Title TV. It was then fully acquired by BBC studios at 2021.
Kokotajlo was awarded the IWC Schaffhausen Filmmaker Award in association to the BFI “Apostasy.”
