A top college football team is in search of a new coach. Ken Sugiura from the Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionGeoff Collins, Georgia Tech’s head coach, has been fired. Sugiura stated that Georgia Tech athletic director Todd Stansbury had been fired. Angel Cabrera, Georgia Tech president, informed Collins and Stansbury Monday morning of the decision.
Collins was fired following a team record of 1-3 in the 2022 season. The Yellow Jackets lost those four games 145-37. Collins joined the team in 2019, and has played only nine games the three previous seasons. Georgia Tech has yet to announce the firing of Collins and Stansbury, but that could come on Monday afternoon when the Georgia Tech Athletic Association board has its special session to approve the moves.

Collins finished Georgia Tech with a record of 10-28. He is also the coach with the lowest winning percentage (.263). The Yellow Jackets have lost six of 38 games by 40 or more points. These six losses occurred over a period that spanned 42 seasons.
“I have tremendous confidence, based on demonstrated ability,”Collins spoke to reporters last Wednesday. The Atlanta Jornal and Constitution. “Now, has that shown up yet while we’ve been here? It has not. Do I have faith and belief in the process that we’re going about to do it? Absolutely. Do I have faith and belief in the young men that are in that locker room that we’ve recruited, that we’ve developed to be able to take that next step? Absolutely. One hundred percent.”
In 2017, and 2018, Collins was Temple’s head coach. Collins was the Temple head coach in 2017 and 2018. In those two years, he posted a 15-10 record while leading the team to two Bowl games. He worked as an assistant coach on several teams including UCF and Alabama as well as his alma mater Western Carolina, where he was a linebacker. Collins was born in Georgia. He played high school football in Rockdale County High School, Conyers. Georgia Tech is looking for a coach to lead the 2023 season. The team has won four national championships. One name that has circulatedis Deion Sanders who is the head coach at Jackson State and has ties with Atlanta as he was a standout player for the Atlanta Falcons in the early 1990s.
