Lucy Dacus drops a dreamy new cover for Cher’s Club Classic, ‘Believe’

Lucy Dacus has offered up a cover of Cher’s Nineties club classic, “Believe,”A new version of hers is also available Home Video track, “Partner in Crime,”Spotify Singles Series.

Dacus made this observation in a statement “Partner in Crime,”Partly inspired by the album’s heavily auto-tuned voice, it features heavily auto-tuned lyrics. “Believe” and Cher’s pioneering use of the effect. “I love Cher’s voice and how low it gets,” Dacus said. “The timbre of her voice is so unique, you can recognize it anywhere. Even with the autotune, you can tell that it’s Cher and nobody else.”

Both her cover and the new version are available here. “Partner in Crime,”Dacus decided to get rid of the auto-tune. She took the auto-tune and made it a simple guitar-and vocals arrangement. “Believe”The dancefloor staple is transformed into a lovely bit of dreampop.

“I feel like some of my favorite lyrics that I’ve written are in ‘Partner in Crime,’ and maybe they aren’t as noticeable because the effect takes you out of it a little bit,” Dacus said. “So, I just wanted to strip it bare and showcase the song for what it is without any tricky production moves.”

She suggested that auto-tune should be disabled “Believe,” “I feel like you can tell that the structure of the song is very special and I did feel myself accidentally wanting to become Cher when I was doing vocal takes. It could never happen, but I love a low voiced pop legend.”

Dacus released the new tracks along with an announcement of a North American leg to her tour as support for Home VideoThe, which arrived in the country last year. New dates are available in New Haven, Connecticut on Sept. 30, and in San Diego, California on Nov. 19. You can find ticket information here Dacus’ website.
