Love Islander Priya Gopaldas stars in new government ad encouraging teens to get vaccinated

LOVE Island star Priya Gopaldas has urged teenagers to get a Covid vaccine to boost their social lives.

The trainee doctor, who spent eight days in the villa this summer, said 16 and 17-year-olds should take up the jab offer so they don’t “miss out”.

She said: “This summer has already been so much better than last year – and I’m not just talking about my Love Island experience.

“We’ve been able to travel, go out with mates and finally go back to the places we love. These special moments are not something anyone wants to miss.

“Halloween parties, proms, trips to the theatre, family gatherings. Getting the jab now means you won’t miss out on all the things that matter this autumn.”

Priya, who is in her fifth year of medical school, recorded a Q&A video session with TV medic Dr Emeka Okorocha as part of a government campaign to boost vaccine uptake.

Health chiefs and ministers hope to increase the number of vaccine-administered 16- and 17-year olds who have received a vaccine.

Surveys found only eight per cent say they don’t want the jab, while most of those who haven’t had it yet said it was because they keep forgetting or haven’t found time.

Dr Okorocha said: “A lot of young people previously felt invincible to the virus but, as an A&E doctor working throughout the height of the pandemic, I saw my fair share of healthy young adults suffering badly from Covid-19.

“Vaccines not only protect you but they also mean you’re less likely to pass the virus on to elderly family members.”
