Lionel Messi snubs dream £41m Paris palace as ‘owner raises rent’ by £8.5k a month

Lionel Messi has missed out on his dream home on the outskirts of Paris after the owner increased the rent by £8,500 a month.

The Argentine superstar decided to pass up on the opportunity of moving into the ‘Pink Palace,’ or Palais Rose, due to the high price to live in the £41million palace.

The property was used by Charles De Gaulle as a residence during World War II.

It now houses a cinema, pool and squash court. The home is ideal for Messi and his family.

Reports in Argentina suggest the rent increasingly shot up when the six-time Ballon d’Or winner expressed his interest.

Messi has been looking for a new home since his transfer to PSG during the summer, following his departure from Barcelona, where he had lived for over 20 years.

A teary press conference brought his time at the Nou Camp to an end, with his move to the French capital confirmed just days later, with his eye watering contract seeing him earning £1million a week.

Since then, he has been staying at the Royal Monceau, a five-star luxury hotel in the city centre, with a price of £17,000 a night.

The hotel’s website describes itself as “a contemporary and vibrant design masterpiece located in the heart of the City of Lights.”

It also has a spa, with a plethora of treatments available as well as luxury living facilities.

Unlike Jose Mourinho, who spent his time living at the Lowry whilst he was manager of Manchester United; Messi and his wife Antonela Roccuzzo want to find a family home.
