Jordan Man Builds Eco-Friendly Home by Hand 13 Years after Buying Property

Bit by bit, Hamad Youssef Nazzal built an environmentally friendly home with traditional architecture using his own hands.

Originating from Jordan, the 52 year-old academic decided to return to Mafraq, his hometown, after a series of career changes, including as a teacher in America.

Hamad took two years to complete the structure’s framework on the 8,000-plus-square-foot parcel of land that he bought in 2009 for approximately $50,000

Hamad would take three years to complete his dome-shaped home. Instead of using concrete, he used mud and barley straw, ash and goat hair.

It is now complete.

The space has five rooms, each with a dome on top, making for a modern twist on a traditional design.
