Jon Watts joins Final Destination 6 to be a Producer for HBO Max Sequel

Jon Watts, Director of the Three Most Recent “Spider-Man” films — including the record-shattering “Spider-Man: No Way Home” — has joined New Line’s “Final Destination 6”As a producer at HBO Max.

Craig Perry, the original producer for the five previous films “Final Destination”Sheila Hanahan Taylor returns to produce the next installment in installments. Watts joins Dianne McGunigle’s producing team.

“Both Dianne and I have been massive fans of ‘Final Destination’ from the very beginning,”Watts said in a statement. “So to be able to have a hand in crafting a new story with the original team and New Line is going to be both fun and exciting.”

Guy Busick, Lori Evans Taylor, and Guy Busick will screenplay the story based upon Jon Watts’ treatment. Busick is also an author. “Scream,”This movie opens in theaters this weekend.

The “Final Destination”Films are unique in horror because the antagonist isn’t a physical entity but Death. The franchise’s first film, which was released in 2000, featured Devon Sawa as a teenage pilot who saw a crash and decided to board a plane. Death then chased him, feeling cheated. Watts’ third “Spider-Man”Film continues to beat box office records at a level unmatched since the pandemic. December’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,”It is one of just four live-action superhero films to have earned the coveted A+ CinemaScore. This movie has gone on to become the 6th highest grossing film nationally and the 8th most grossing film globally, with over $1.53 Billion. The three Watts-directed Spider-Man movies also include “Spider-Man: Homecoming” “Spider-Man: Far from Home,”Together they have earned a staggering $3.5 trillion worldwide.
