John Carpenter has harsh criticisms of American Godzilla Films

Interview with Den of Geek, Horror director “Godzilla”John Carpenter, a fan of the American, harshly criticised it “Godzilla” films. He stated, “They just don’t have the same charm of the original ‘Godzilla’ movies, the cast of the ‘Godzilla’ movies. Even though they brought over old has-been American actors to be in it. The actors were great, I guess most of them were under contract at Toho. American ‘Godzilla’ movies are a computer-fest. They lack charm, and I’m just not that interested.”

Raymond Burr, an American actor who was brought to Japan to star in one of their monster films is Carpenter’s reference to. He appeared in a modified version of the original. “Gojira”American audiences can watch the movie with the recutting and re-titling “Godzilla, King of the Monsters!”Carpenter suggested Burr be brought in to allow American moviegoers to see a Japanese production at the theater. “He does nothing much more than narrate what’s happening, but he breaks up the mood of the original,”He elaborated.
