Jimmie Allen’s baby daughter is ‘off oxygen’ after hospitalization

Country singerJimmie Allen says the health of his 6-week-old daughter is improving after the baby was rushed to the hospital earlier this week when she “stopped breathing.”

Zara is doing a lot better. She’s off oxygen and breathing on her own,” Allen tweeted Friday morning. “Hopefully, she stays like this and can go home soon. Thanks for the well wishes, positive energy and prayer.”

Allen’s wife, Lexi Allen, shared another update late Friday on Instagram.

“You never really think about the bad days you may go through with a child until you’re right in those moments,” she wrote, describing traveling on the tour bus on Tuesday with her husband to be closer to family as he worked. When the baby woke up with a coughing fit, Lexi Allen tried shower steam, suctioning and chest rubs, but “nothing seemed to work. At 10:30 Zara was unresponsive in my arms and turning color as we frantically ask our drivers to pull over and call 911. The longest 15 minutes of my life.”

Jimmie Allen and his wife, Lexi Allen, arrive for the 55th CMA Awards at Bridgestone Arena on Nov. 10 in Nashville.

“My baby was so so tired her muscles had given up on her. I did everything under the sun to keep her awake and thank god it seemed to work. She was soon in the ambulance with oxygen and finally started to regain her color.”

Lexi Allen thanked the EMTs who saved the infant and the doctors, nurses and respiratory therapist who provided follow-up care, and shared photos of the couple cuddling the baby in the hospital.

“Mommies & daddies please go with your gut instinct,” she wrote. “I wish I would’ve taken action sooner but I am so incredibly thankful to have another day of being her mama.”

USA TODAY has reached out to Allen’s representative for an update on Zara’s condition.

Fans showed Allen an outpouring of support after the good news.

“Oh Jimmie so glad she is on the mend!!!” an encouraged fan tweeted.

“Continuing to send healing and positive thoughts to you all!” another thankful person wrote.

“Such good news. My son had RSV at 5 weeks and was hospitalized, it’s so scary,” One fan shared their feelings with a heart emoticon.

“So good to see you singing in the MACY’s Parade, that told me your baby girl was doing well … GOD BLESS, she is beautiful,” a fan expressed.

The country star performed Thursday at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York City, singing his hit “Freedom Was a Highway” while performing behind the Jolly Green Giant float.
