Is Taron Egerton in The Sandman a Taron Egerton? Netflix cast confusion explored

Following TV adaptations of Lucifer, American Gods and Good Omens, Neil Gaiman’s seminal work, The Sandman, has finally arrived on TV screens courtesy of Netflix.

Tom Sturridge is the star of the series, and he leads a cast that includes big-name actors playing roles in both small and large.

However, fans of the series have been left with questions surrounding Taron Egerton’s supposed role in the series after he was previously reported to be among the cast.

Taron Egerton was allegedly cast in The Sandman

In January 2021 Deadline reported that Welsh actor Taron Egerton was supposedly attached to appear in an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.

The 32-year old actor is best known for his roles as Eggsy and Rocketman in the Kingsman spy movies. Google cast listFor the Sandman series.

Fans of the series will be forgiven if they believe that Egerton actually appears in The Sandman.

Is Taron actually in The Sandman Season 1?

No, Taron Egerton does not appear in season 1 of Netflix’s The Sandman.

That’s right, despite apparently being cast in the series, the actor is nowhere to be seen or heard in the TV adaptation.

Egerton’s misreported casting seems to be the result of crossed wires as he does star in the Audible audiobook version of The Sandman comics as John Constantine – the first instalment of which was released in July 2020 and was followed by a second batch of stories in September 2021.

The same Google cast list that names Egerton as an actor in The Sandman also features Andy Serkis, Michael Sheen, Josie Lawrence, Arthur Darvill, Kat Dennings, Bebe Neuwirth, James McAvoy, Anton Lesser and Paterson Joseph as cast members – none of whom actually appear.

They also appear in the audiobook versions and not the Netflix series.

Fans react to actor’s absence from The Sandman

It’s safe to say that The Sandman fans have been left disappointed by Taron Egerton’s absence from the series, with many taking to social media to voice their thoughts.

One Twitter fan wrote: “Taron Egerton is in The Sandman? I will be watching,”However, their hopes were dashed by another reply: “Audiobook only. Not the new live-action show.”

Another fan commented: “They’re saying Taron Egerton is in The Sandman?”

“Gwendoline Christie is obviously incredible in Netflix’s The Sandman,”This fan commented. “But where is Taron Egerton (according to google).”

A fan named several cast members that only appeared in the audiobook version. “Not sure I fancy The Sandman on Netflix. Not really my cup of tea, despite Michael Sheen, Taron Egerton and Josie Lawrence being in it.”

“Impressive cast. Google says Taron Egerton is on the cast list but upon further googling, I find out that he’s not in it at all.”
