Iran’s Reza Dormishian Prevented From Travel To India Film Festival

Reza Dormishian, Iranian filmmaker and producer of Dariush Mehrjui’s The MinorIt is expected to make its international premiere at the International Film Festival of India, (IFFI) in Goa. However, a permit has not yet been issued to Iran so it is not possible to participate in the festival.

Dormishian’s passport was confiscated at the airport and he was referred to the court of law for prosecution. Dormishian posted photos to Instagram during protests across Iran.

Dormishian was born in Tehran in 1981 and is a director, screenwriter, producer, as well as a documentary filmmaker. Credits include: Hatred, I’m Not Angry!, The Minor There is no other choiceHe was either a director or producer. His films were all shown at major film festivals, and received several awards. He has been severely censored and banned for many years in Iran because his movies often criticize aspects of Iranian society. White chairsHe directed and produced the 2017 film titled “The Great Escape”, which was shot in New Zealand.

The CowMehrjui directed the film and Dormishian produced it. It was among the first Iranian films to appear in international festivals. The Minor Mehrjui directs this film, his 27th feature. Hamoun, Santouri, Mum’s Guest, Leila The Pear Tree. Mehrjui’s films have travelled to festivals including Berlin, Cannes, Venice, Tokyo and San Sebastian.

Dormishian directed his debut feature Hatred In Istanbul, Turkey in 2011, followed by titles such as I’m Not Angry!, Lantouri, White chairs There is no other choice. Films of his have been shown at many festivals, including Berlin, Karlovy Vary and Warsaw.

Several well-known Iranian actors including Navid Mohammadzadeh, Bahram Afshari, Mehdi Koushki and Reza Koolghani had their breakout roles in Dormishian’s films.
