A STEAKHOUSE sparked heated debate online after revealing its strict dress code that customers must adhere to.

Steak 48, a chain of contemporary steakhouses in four cities, has a “fine dining dress code policy” that people must follow if they want to dine at the restaurants.

“At Steak 48, we require resort casual attire for all of our guests,” read the policy on the company’s website.

“Persons in ball cap style hats, excessively revealing clothing, or workout attire may not be admitted.”

Other banned clothing includes anything “excessively frayed”, anything “emitting offensive odors” or exposed undergarments.

The chain has locations in Houston, Charlotte, Chicago and Philadelphia. The latter two locations have also adopted a policy, stating there is a $100 per person food and beverage minimum.

On the website, this requirement is “to ensure that each guest enjoys the total experience of food, service and atmosphere.”

The $100 minimum does not include tax or tip for service workers.

Steak 48 was originally intended as a luxury service restaurant, opening in September 2020 and telling The Inquirer that it was hoping for a $120 check average.

According to the website, the restaurant offers “the finest steaks and high-quality seafood in an intimate and vibrant setting.

“Our diverse menu will satisfy any personal craving, as we serve the best USDA prime steaks, succulent seafood, and shellfish along with inventive and classically inspired side dishes and appetizers.”

People took to social media to share their thoughts on the strict rules made by the restaurant.

“Stop going to corporate-owned chain restaurants,” wrote one Twitter user. “Find a local restaurant that appreciates your business.”

Other users wondered if the $100 bill minimum would mean that workers would be paid above the minimum wage as a result.

“I’ve never heard of Steak 48 until today. And even though I could afford it, you will never see me at Steak 48 or ANY restaurant that requires I spend at least $100 on my meal BEFORE tax & tip is figured in. There pretentiousness is rather disgusting.”
